What do you consider an Official Transcript?
To make sure the transcripts are official and un-tampered with, you must provide our office with transcripts that are sealed in the original envelope from the school.
We are looking to see whether you meet our math requirements: One full year of Algebra and one full year of any “other” math (Geometry, Statistics, etc.) with a grade of “C” or higher in each semester.
What if I never finished High School or only have a GED or HSED?
ANSWER:We still require the official transcripts from your high school, regardless of how long you attended. We will also require the test scores from your GED or HSED tests. Your math score from these tests will count towards your “other” math requirement, however, they not fulfill any algebra requirement.
Do you need my college transcripts?
ANSWER:We always need the official high school transcripts, but if you have any post high school education, you should provide us with those official transcripts as well.
What happens next if I do meet the math requirements?
ANSWER:Once we have your completed application, application fee and official transcripts, and you meet our math requirements, you will be registered for the next available aptitude test date. Tests are normally held on a monthly basis. However, test dates are subject to change based on the needs of the apprenticeship committee.
What happens if I do not meet the math requirements?
ANSWER:Applications and transcripts will be kept on file for two (2) years. During that time, you may complete the math courses you are missing, and submit the transcripts to our office. The course(s) can be taken through an accredited college, technical school, or you could take an online Tech Math course through the NJATC. You can also contact Big Step in Milwaukee at (414) 937-3600 to see if their “Modular Math” course would fulfill your missing math you require.
What if I fail my aptitude test?
ANSWER:You will need to wait 6 months from the date of the failed test in order to take the test again. If you are interested in re-testing, you will be required to complete a new application and also pay the $20.00 application fee. You would not need to provide us with your transcripts as we would already have them on file.
